Frank Lampard explains what Callum Hudson-Odoi must do next to earn important Chelsea role

Frank Lampard has called on Callum Hudson-Odoi to consistently produce the performance that spearheaded Chelsea's comeback from three goals down to draw away to West Bromwich Albion last night.

The young winger came off the bench at half-time and scored the second goal in an exciting comeback that was still not sufficient to mask the defensive mistakes of the opening period.

Hudson-Odoi had struggled for end product in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Barnsley but given another chance to impress at The Hawthorns, he stated a convincing case for more regular minutes.

Lampard was impressed but said that for Hudson-Odoi must maintain that level going forward.

"Callum gave me everything I asked and wanted from him in terms of his ability to go one v one, trying to take people on and he got his goal," the head coach told football.london.

"That's what Callum needs to do. That's the sort of impact he can have for us and it has to be consistent. He gave himself a great platform now to continue in that vain. He'll be very important for us if he does."

Lampard also refused to blame Thiago Silva following the Brazilian's error for West Brom's second goal as he was robbed of possession by Matheus Pereira, who then set Callum Robinson away to score.

"Thiago Silva is going to be fantastic for us. He has been incredible in his career and absolutely, I will not look at him. I can talk about the mistakes, they are clear and I am open and honest about that. We are a team but we have to react around that and, to be fair, the team did in the second half.

"But, there is nothing on Thiago, I am sure he will stand up and say it was a mistake. But other than that, I thought he was pretty faultless in the game. That’s his first Premier League game done and in the bank. We will get a lot more from him as well especially as he gets fitter and as the whole squad get fitter."
