Frank Lampard explains his decision to drop Kepa Arrizabalaga for Chelsea against Leicester City

Frank Lampard has revealed the reason behind his decision to drop Kepa Arrizabalaga against Leicester City.

The Spaniard was replaced by Willy Caballero for the Blues' clash away at Leicester City on Saturday.

It's the first time that the Spaniard hasn't started a Premier League match under Lampard, with the head coach opting for a change between the sticks after some high-profile errors from the club's record transfer.

However, Lampard insisted that it wasn't a decision he took lightly but felt Caballero deserved an opportunity to impress against the Foxes.

"It's a decision I've made and with goalkeepers, it's a decision I don't take lightly," Lampard told BT Sport ahead of kick-off at the King Power Stadium.

"You have to look at what it means because they're very close and they work hard together each day. It's just one I felt to make for this game.

"I trust in Willy, he trains brilliantly, he's a great professional. I trust in them both but this is a decision for today."

Whilst the change in goal took the headlines, Pedro was also preferred on the wing to Willian.

The Spaniard has by in large struggled for minutes in the first team this season, making only five Premier League appearances, but did impress in the FA Cup against Hull City last time out.

Lampard added: "I think with Willian, he's had big moments this season and some big moments with the club. I think it's more a chance for Pedro, sometimes you have to make decisions, the players have to respect them as well.

"I expect the same levels because of the squad that we have.

"I want freshness in the team, I want togetherness and we have to give everything today because it's a tough game."
