Frank Lampard explains his Chelsea decision vs Everton

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has explained the reasons behind his decision not to make any changes to his starting line-up for the trip to face Everton at Goodison Park.

The Blues defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in midweek, bouncing back from consecutive defeats against Manchester City and West Ham, and have an important Champions League showdown with Lille next week.

Despite the upcoming game against the Ligue 1 side, where Chelsea are looking to secure their spot in the knockout stages of Europe's elite competition, Lampard chose not to rest any players for the trip to Merseyside.

While that may have raised some eyebrows considering the importance of that match, Lampard explained that he had no reason to shuffle his deck.

“We were really good against Aston Villa, the only thing we didn’t do is score more goals but I was really pleased with that. So yeah, we’re giving the players another go,” he told BT Sport.

“I know it’s a tight turnaround but it’s the same for Everton, they played a tough game themselves, so I expect more of the same from us.”

Chelsea face a testing sequence of matches during the coming weeks, which includes London derbies against Tottenham and Chelsea either side of Christmas.
