Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has detailed the reasons behind his team selection for the crucial Premier League clash with Manchester City.
The Blues are seeking three points to strengthen their charge for Champions League qualification and know that if they prevent City from winning, Liverpool will be crowned champions for the first time in 30 years.
Therefore, there is even more focus upon the game at Stamford Bridge and, with City's strength being shown by their victories against Arsenal and the hammering of Burnley.
Chelsea, meanwhile, came from behind to defeat Aston Villa, with Pulisic on the scoresheet for that game, and he has been promoted to the Blues' starting line-up.
"With Christian, I felt before Villa, he could impact the day and start this game," Lampard told BT Sport ahead of kick-off, "Ross has also come in. Ross was unfortunate not to start the first game and came in and made the difference himself."
Lampard knows the importance of the match, not just for his side but also for Liverpool, but he doesn't feel the result is too significant in the title race.
“I don’t mean to kill it tonight. I think Liverpool won the league pretty much months ago. Their performances this year have been outstanding, and I’m not trying to take it away when they win it.
"They should celebrate because they’ve had some unbelievable performances, summed up by their performance last night a little bit. That’s for them to celebrate whenever and for us to try and win the game ourselves.”
Interestingly, it's the second time in five seasons when Chelsea have had the fate of the title in their hands despite not competing for the crown themselves, as their win against Tottenham in 2016 handed Leicester City top billing.
