Frank Lampard explains Billy Gilmour selection for Chelsea fixture at Crystal Palace

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has laid down the mantle for Billy Gilmour to shine after selecting him against Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening.

The Blues are looking to bolster their push for Champions League football against Roy Hodgson's side and young Gilmour was brought into the side.

The 19-year-old has caught the eye since his breakthrough into the first-team fold this season and expectations are high for the coming years.

Lampard is aware of that and is hoping for him to make an impact in his latest appearance this evening.

“To play the way he (Gilmour) trains, hopefully, the way he played two games before lockdown. Fantastic games against one of the best teams in the world, and Everton," he told Sky Sports ahead of the match.

"He shows it every day with his attitude and quality on the pitch - I want him to bring that."

Gilmour's appearance against the Eagles is his 11th of the season across all competitions and his sixth in the Premier League.
