Frank Lampard eases fresh Tammy Abraham injury concerns after Chelsea striker shines against Aston Villa

Frank Lampard is hopeful Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has avoided another injury after starring on his return to the starting XI against Aston Villa.

After missing the defeat to West Ham with a hip problem suffered against Valencia in the Champions League, Abraham was back to lead the Blues attack on Wednesday, scoring the game’s opener before providing an assist for Mason Mount in a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

The England international left supporters sweating when he came off during the second-half but Lampard eased those concerns post-match.

"It doesn't seem too bad in there, so I'm presuming that he's alright," the Chelsea boss said.

Abraham has scored 11 times in the Premier League this term but has also had a direct hand in a goal in all his 14 league games this season.

"He's a personality that's growing in our dressing room every day with his enthusiasm and his will to win," said Lampard.

"Tammy is a striker that's near the top of the goalscoring charts in the league, he's showing his all-round game, stretches defences, and he starts our press.

"And of course if a player's on such a good run it's normal that if they go out of the team that you can miss them, and today he came straight back in as he left off."
