Frank Lampard details Billy Gilmour's impact on Chelsea training

Frank Lampard has revealed how impressed he is by Billy Gilmour during every training session at Chelsea.

The 18-year-old was handed his first start for the club in a 7-1 thumping of Grimsby in the Carabao Cup having previously played against Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke revealed this week he's decided to allow Gilmour to stay with Scot Gemmill's 21s rather than promote him to the full squad.

And Lampard admits he loves working wth the ex- Rangers kid.

He said: "Billy was brilliant the other day against Grimsby Town. I was delighted with the reaction Billy got during the game and that will make him so good.

"Every training session Billy takes part in he lights it up with energy, quality and angles.

"He’s like an old-fashioned midfield player.

"I know modern midfield players do it too, but he’s constantly making angles, berating people even though he’s a young boy, he has a big personality in the way he plays and he's never scared to receive the ball. He’s got a really big chance."
