Frank Lampard says his old job as manager of Derby County would be a "great opportunity" for former Chelsea teammate John Terry.
Derby are without a manager since Phillip Cocu's exit from the club last month, with current Derby player Wayne Rooney taking on a player/coaching role while the club looks for a replacement.
Rooney himself has been touted as a possible long-term replacement for Cocu, but according to reports Terry has emerged as a contender for the job.
Terry has been part of the Aston Villa coaching staff since 2018, following his stint there after leaving Chelsea as a player.
Lampard says his former Chelsea and England teammate is "destined" to be a manager at some point in the future, and that there will be no lack of ambition from the 39-year-old.
"I think he is destined to be a manager," Lampard told reporters. "He has worked very well at Aston Villa.
"I think it is a great opportunity for him potentially if true.
"I know Derby is a great club and he will be an ambitious manager if it goes his way."
Derby are currently bottom of the Championship after 14 games, with just a solitary win and four draws from the first three months of the season.
Interim head coach Rooney said when taking over that if he was given the job on a permanent basis, it would signal the end of his playing career.
Rooney has been leaning on former England boss Steve McClaren for help during his short time in charge at Derby.
"He's been around the game for a long time," Rooney told reporters.
"I'm confident how I set the team up, tactically, they're my decisions... [but" there are a lot of other aspects to this job which you need to do to make sure everything is right, not just on the pitch but also off it."
