Frank Lampard delivers update on Chelsea January transfer plans amid Erling Haaland links

Frank Lampard has given an indication of Chelsea's plans for the January transfer window.

The window officially reopens tomorrow (Saturday, January 2) for a month as the Blues and their rivals see if they can strengthen their squads.

Chelsea splashed out £200million on new players during the summer transfer window, signing Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Edouard Mendy and Malang Sarr.

It remains to be seen if the club will do any more business this month but they have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Frank Lampard press conference after Villa draw

Boss Lampard was asked about the issue during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

On possible new additions, the former England midfielder said: "I'm not sure yet. I have ideas.

"We have a big squad, we will see if that changes - if there are opportunities for players that aren't playing so much. That will be a conversation for player, club and myself.

"Then we will see if we feel we can strengthen in the right way but we are not jumping up and down to do so.

"My focus this year is purely on work, because we have new players, because we have young players. I'm focusing on that.

"But we'll see. It's a long month."

Haaland is said to have attracted interest from a string of top European clubs.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all reported to be keen on the 20-year-old striker, while Chelsea are the latest club to be linked.

Any move for Haaland would likely be made at the end of this season rather than in January.

The Norway international scored 44 goals in total last season and has already netted 23 times for club and country this term in only 19 appearances.
