Frank Lampard delivers huge boost to Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and the Chelsea young guns

Frank Lampard will not be able to bring in any new signings during his first year at Chelsea.

A transfer ban handed down by FIFA for their registration of youth players previously means the Blues are not allowed to register any new players in either this summer transfer window or the next January one.

That means Lampard will have to work with what he's got during the 2019/20 season, not that he is concerned.

The new boss is keen to give youth a chance at Stamford Bridge, something that has not been a priority for previous managers in west London.

The Chelsea fans have been clamouring for the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to be handed more game time and now could be that time.

There are others too, the likes of Mason Mount, who was with Lampard at Derby last season, who will be keen to make that step up into the Blues first team.

Speaking in his first interview since being unveiled as Maurizio Sarri's replacement, Lampard said: "Playing here for so many years, seeing the work put into the academy, on all fronts from the top, the investment put into see it succeed, on the ground the coaching staff, people working as hard as they can to get players in the first team, and then the players themselves.

"I've seen them, I've been fortunate enough to work with Mason Mount and [Fikayo] Tomori last year, their attitude stood out well, the fact they've come through the academy, you can see it in the way they train, the way they play.

"I want to dangle the carrot, 'can you work hard, can you get in the team'?

"It's something I will work hard to make sure communication is there day in day out. The staff I have with me will help me with that, but I will always have my eye on the academy, always, it's important.

"I was that young player a very long time ago, the one thing you want is the feeling that you can get into that first team, the feeling that that road that divides the academy from the main building is a road you can cross. It has to be there for you and that does come from the top, I have to show that, if young players are performing and they deserve it on merit, they'll be coming and training with us."
