Danny Murphy says Ross Barkley is already proving Chelsea wrong at new club Aston Villa.
The England midfielder joined Dean Smith's side on a season-long loan deal from the Blues and has scored two goals in his first two games for Villa, after an impressive debut against champions Liverpool.
The latest one came in second-half stoppage time to secure a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday evening at the King Power Stadium.
Murphy says Barkley is already showing his talent and Frank Lampard may be having second thoughts about letting him go, after little fanfare about the midfielder's departure.
"He [Barkley] has added quality to Villa," said Murphy on Match of the Day 2. "I think he struggled this week, he said, and hadn’t trained very much.
"But credit to him for being out there and showing the energy and the desire to be out there in the latter stages of the game.
"It was a super finish but I think Choudhury will be disappointed and Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed in him.
"He came on for Mendy and sat in midfield.
"He got drawn towards the ball and didn’t recover in time.
"Look at the gap, it’s exactly what Barkley likes to exploit.
"He (Barkley) only had this one but this is why Chelsea paid the money for him. That is what he is capable of and playing every week for Aston Villa will help his confidence.
"It’s exactly what Villa went there to do."
Barkley has failed to establish himself on a consistent basis at Stamford Bridge having arrived at the club in January 2018 for £15m.
Since then he has made just 28 league starts for Chelsea.
The midfielder was handed a fresh start by Smith at Villa and his winner helps continue the side's 100 per cent start to the Premier League season.
