Frank Lampard will take his first steps into management in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
But he will do so without four key players.
The Blues welcome Valencia to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night for the first fixture in the group stages of this year's competition.
Chelsea were handed a tough-looking group when the draw was made, with Lille and Ajax also in there.
Spanish side Valencia are in a bit of turmoil, having sacked manager Marcelino and replaced him with Albert Celades last week.
Things did not get any better as they were routed 5-2 by Barcelona at the weekend.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are on a high, having beaten Wolves by the same scoreline, with Tammy Abraham scoring his first ever Premier League hat-trick.
Head coach Lampard has been holding his pre-match press conference ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge, and he has confirmed that he will be without four key players, although he has had to do without most of them all season so far.
Antonio Rudiger returned from injury during the game with Wolves, but was replaced at half-time with a groin injury.
Lampard hoped he would be available for the Champions League encounter, but that has not proven to be the case.
Lampard said: "Toni is injured. He bothered a small groin problem and he will have a scan. [Reece] James, [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [N'Golo] Kante are all fit, but not match fit.
"They might have another game in the U23s, N’Golo needs a bit of time. Everyone else fit."
