Frank Lampard confirms Callum Hudson-Odoi will make Chelsea return against Grimsby

Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi will make his first-team return in the League Cup on Wednesday following his recovery from an Achilles injury.

The England international was forced off during the draw against Burnley in April and underwent successful surgery days later.

The 18-year-old, who has not featured since Frank Lampard took the reins at Stamford Bridge, received his first England call-up in March after impressing for the Blues under Maurizio Sarri.

Hudson-Odoi was just beginning to win regular starts for Chelsea when injury cruelly cut short his season, but he is set to return at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The winger will feature alongside Reece James, who is yet to make a competitive appearance for Chelsea's senior side following a season on loan at Wigan.

Asked about the duo, Lampard told Chelsea's official website: "They'll be involved on Wednesday night.

We need to look at players that haven't been playing so much. We will pay Grimsby due to respect but it certainly is minutes for certain players that haven't been there.

"Call is on the road to recovery - it's a long injury so he needs game time, Reece similarly. There will be some changes but I expect the same level of performance."
