Frank Lampard: Chelsea 4-4 draw with Ajax ranks with my greatest games for Blues

Frank Lampard ranks Chelsea's thrilling 4-4 draw with Ajax among the greatest matches he played in for the Blues.

Two own goals helped Ajax storm into a 4-1 lead at Stamford Bridge, but a remarkable three-minute spell saw the visitors have two players sent off and Jorginho reduce the deficit from the spot - his second penalty of the game.

Reece James became Chelsea's youngster ever scorer in the competition to level the scores before captain Cesar Azpilicueta thought he had won the game only for VAR to rule the goal out for offside.

"Today was just a mad one," Lampard told reporters. "I don't think there's too many you can compare it to in my day.

"I've had some mad nights over the years, and some great nights. For everything that it was tonight, and for the spectacle that it was, it's certainly right up there."

He added: "Take VAR out of it and the red cards etcetera, what I have to think about is us and the spirit that we showed, and the character is something that I loved and our fans loved.

"We need to tighten up for sure, but with that spirit we can go places."
