Frank Lampard can copy Jurgen Klopp tactic to unleash Kai Havertz with Pulisic at Chelsea

Kai Havertz can replicate what Roberto Firmino does at Liverpool for Chelsea.

That's the view of former Blues midfielder Joe Cole who believes the club-record signing from Bayer Leverkusen must operate centrally after being used as a right-winger on his Premier League debut by head coach Frank Lampard.

The Germany international has arrived in west London with a big reputation despite his tender years and has already helped himself to a hat-trick in Chelsea colours.

But there has been a debate as to how Lampard can unleash the 21-year-old alongside the likes of Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

And that's by taking a leaf out of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's book.

In the German tactician's system, Firmino is the player who is crucial to getting the best out of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, and Cole can see similarities between the Brazilian and Havertz.

"I see him as a Firmino-type player where he knits it together," Cole said on BT Sport. "So you want him playing central, you want him in these positions.

"He's got spacial awareness where he can bring players into the game.

"Frank played him off the right in this game (vs Brighton) where he was largely ineffectual and this (positional heatmap) highlights it brilliantly.

"When you have a player of his quality, anytime he receives the ball, anyone of those positions he can hurt you.

"When you play in this position you have to understand how to make space.

"I think he will score lots of goals from this position.

"Players are going to love playing with him, like how [Liverpool] players love playing with Firmino.

"He's such an exciting player and I feel his impact on this Chelsea team will not just be goals and assists, but bringing the best out of the likes of Pulisic, [Mason] Mount, Callum [Hudson-Odoi] and Tammy [Abraham] because he can knit it together."
