Frank Lampard breaks Chelsea silence on Angel Gomes Manchester United transfer reports

Frank Lampard has played down links between Chelsea and Angel Gomes, as the youngster looks set to leave Manchester United.

Today (Tuesday) marks the final day of Gomes' United contract, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealing that the 19-year-old has rejected offers to remain at Old Trafford.

"You can ask Angel why he's not signed," Solskjaer said at a press conference before United's Tuesday night clash with Brighton. "He's not signed yet, I don't know what the talks are behind the scenes.

"Angel's a top kid. Of course there are people around him that advise him to do different things. If he doesn't sign, all the best to Angel and I'm going to follow his career. If he signs for us, let's kick on."

It has been claimed that Chelsea are interested in taking Gomes on a free transfer, but boss Lampard dismissed the speculation.

When asked to elaborate on links between Chelsea and Gomes, he said: "Yeah, I can elaborate to the point where it’s never been mentioned my end, so that’s it."

Lampard also denied any interest from Chelsea in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who has also been touted as a possible United transfer.

He added: "Declan Rice is a good player, you’re right. I’ve known Declan Rice for a long time, he was at Chelsea’s academy. But there’s no talk.

"I keep saying that about every player we’ll be asked about until these games are finished, there’s nothing to say."

Chelsea have already secured the additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively as they look to pip United to a place in next season's Champions League. The two clubs are also set to meet in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
