Frank Kerr murder detectives charge 60-year-old man

A man is due in court today charged with the murder of a postal worker in Northern Ireland in 1994.

Frank Kerr, 54, was shot when raiders posing as postal workers burst into a sorting office in Newry, Co Down, and escaped with cash.

In the early hours of this morning, police confirmed a 60-year-old man had been charged with murder. He is due to appear at court today.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Detectives from the PSNI Legacy Investigation Branch have charged a 60-year-old with murder, robbery, possession of a firearm and ammunition and membership of a prescribed organisation. As is normal procedure all charged are reviewed by the PPS. The man is due to appear at Newry Magistrates' Court on Friday, August 9.

"The charges relate to the murder of Francis Damien Kerr in Newry on 10th November 1994."
