Frank Bough dies aged 87 as former Grandstand and Breakfast Time presenter passes away

Former Grandstand presenter Frank Bough has died. 

The TV sports personality passed away on Wednesday in a care home at the age of 87.

The popular TV star launched BBC’s Breakfast Time in 1983 before becoming one of the highest paid presenters on television.

Now friends of the family have confirmed the tragic news of his death.

Frank started presenting on Grandstand in 1968 after appearing on Sportsview in 1964, taking over from Peter Dimmock.

He later moved on to present Breakfast Time TV in 1983 but he was later sacked by the BBC in 1988 after a drugs and prostitutes scandal was exposed.

After leaving the BBC, he went on to present on ITV and Sky TV.

In later years Frank chose to live privately with his wife at home in Berkshire.

Tributes have poured in for the iconic presenter, with Good Morning Britain star Piers Morgan leading the messages.

He wrote: "RIP Frank Bough, 87.

"Star of Grandstand, Nationwide and Breakfast Time.

"His career was ruined by scandal, but he was one of the great live TV presenters. Sad news."

Fans of the TV star also rushed to share their sadness at the presenter's death, as one posted: "Sad news. I remember him and his wife Nesta doing the holiday programme and always eating al fresco. RIP Frank."

Another added: "Sad news I remember him on tv when I was little, always had a nice smile x."

Frank leaves behind wife Nesta Howells, who he married in 1959, and their three sons, David, Stephen and Andrew.
