Frank Adonis death: Director and 'Goodfellas' actor dies, aged 83

Frank Adonis, the actor best known for his role in Goodfellas, has died at the age of 83.

The news of the actor's death was confirmed by his wife Denise, TMZ reported.

Adonis reportedly died at his home in Las Vegas after suffering from various health issues including kidney problems.

The news outlet also reported that Adonis was on a ventilator and undergoing dialysis in the nine days up until his death, but that his family chose to wait until after Christmas before he was taken off.

In a statement, the actor's wife said: "He will be missed. He was a great father and an amazing husband.

"He helped all his friends he could. Great writer, director and actor. He was my best friend."

In addition to playing the role of Anthony Stabile in the iconic 1990 film about the mafia, Adonis was involved in 40 other credits during his long career in Hollywood.

Among these roles were parts in other Martin Scorsese films, including Raging Bull and Casino.

Adonis also directed the 1998 film One Deadly Road.
