Nicolas Sarkozy is catching up his election rival François Hollande in the latest opinion polls in France. Hollande is forecast to secure 53% of votes in the second-round runoff on Sunday, down one percentage point, with Sarkozy up one point to 47%.

The poll, carried out by Ipsos for France Televisions, Radio France and Le Monde, found that 22% of people had not yet decided how they would vote.

Among supporters of François Bayrou, the centrist candidate eliminated in the first round, 34% are expected to vote for Hollande and 40% for Sarkozy on Sunday. A further 20% said they hadn't decided.

The far-right candidate Marine Le Pen's supporters are split 54%-14% in favour of Sarkozy, with 20% undecided, while 80% of supporters of the Front de Gauche candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon said they would vote for Hollande on Sunday, and 3% for Sarkozy.
