Francesca took on bullies and is now England national team mascot

A schoolgirl has been rewarded for her work stopping children from becoming the victim of bullies by becoming a virtual mascot for England during their recent victories over Ireland and Iceland.

Francesca Heaton, aged eight, was rewarded for her role as an anti-bullying ambassador by the English FA.

The youngster from Seaforth was also given a brand new England kit and tickets to a future game at Wembley, plus the opportunity to put questions to the England players.

Dad Andy said: “Francesca is a great kid. She has a very happy and helpful personality.

“She bounces around the playground in her high viz jacket helping other children in her role as an anti-bullying ambassador and loves being kind and passing that kindness to others.

“She has been doing it for two years now. If she sees anyone being mean she is quick to intervene and suggest better behaviour."

As a partner to the FA Respect Campaign, the Nationwide Building Society has pledged to ensure that one million parents and coaches engage with the campaign over the next three years “to help build a more mutually respectful society both on and off the pitch”.

“I am a Goalkeeper for my local team and I kept three clean sheets to help my team win five games out of five this season.

“To get the chance to ask questions to England players is something I will never forget.”
