France's World Cup winning defender Benjamin Pavard is to join Bayern Munich from July, the German club has announced. The 22-year-old, who moved from the French outfit Lille to Stuttgart in 2016, was one of the stars of the 2018 tournament.

His strike during France's 4-3 win over Argentina in the last 16 was deeemed the goal of the tournament.

"He is young and a world champion, so we are happy and proud to have won over such a player," said Bayern's sports director Hasan Salihamidzic at their winter training camp in Doha.

Pavard's reputation has remained high despite featuring in a Stuttgart rearguard that has shipped 35 goals in 17 Bundesliga games this season.
