France vs Argentina, World Cup 2018 player ratings: Kylian Mbappe lights up game with two goals but Lionel Messi again struggles to impress

France won a classic against Argentina to seal their place in the World Cup 2018 quarter-finals against either Portugal or Uruguay.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a lung-busting run from Kylian Mbappé, only for Ángel Di María to level in stunning fashion.

Gabriel Mercado then gave the Argentinian’s an unlikely lead when he deflected Lionel Messi’s low shot beyond Hugo Lloris, but Benjamin Pavard quickly got France back on level terms with an incredible half-volley into the top corner.

Mbappé then won the game for France, announcing himself on the world stage with two breakaway goals, with Sergio Aguero's late goal proving nothing but a consolation.
