France under-21s boss Sylvain Ripoll says he is delighted to see Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier performing well in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old replaced Kiko Casilla as the Whites' first-choice goalkeeper last season and has kept his place in Marcelo Bielsa's starting XI after promotion to the Premier League.
He put has put in impressive displays against Sheffield United and Manchester City, earning praise from numerous pundits.
Meslier is also starting to push Fiorentina's Alban Lafont for a starting spot in France's under-21 squad.
Ripoll says he is keen to see Meslier continue to perform well in the Premier League and that his progress is cause for optimism in France.
He told L'Equipe (via Sport Witness): "We are delighted to see Illan at this level, he finished last season well and started the new one very well.
"We will see how things develop.
"I can only be happy to see starting goalies, which has not always been the case with the under-21s."
Meslier himself says he is delighted with the game time he is getting at Elland Road.
Yet, despite playing a key role in Leeds' promotion and excellent start to the new season, Meslier is not getting ahead of himself just yet.
He says it will take him at least a season to get used to playing in the Premier League - and that means he cannot consider himself a top-flight player yet.
He said: "I’m super-happy to be playing at this level but I don’t consider myself a real Premier League player yet, because it takes adaptation.
"It takes at least a full season to get used to it."
