France to end ban for UK travellers after month of tight restrictions

France is ending its travel ban on UK visitors, allowing Brits to enter the country for non-essential travel like holidays.

It has been exactly four weeks since France enacted a travel ban on UK travellers on December 16.

Tourism minister Jean Baptiste-Lemoyne confirmed the news on Twitter, adding that the new rules come into force tomorrow, Friday, January 14.

The strict travel limits were imposed due to soaring cases of Omicron.

Further details are to come, including more information on testing, self-isolation and vaccination requirements.

The news follows France reporting a new daily record of 368,149 new cases of Covid on Tuesday.

French politician Alexandre Holroyd dropped a hint about the travel update on Tuesday night.

He wrote: "Following numerous discussions with the Government, considerable reductions in health measures at the borders will be announced very soon.

"More details here in the coming days."

The travel industry has been preparing for the end of the ban.

This week Ski Line, a UK travel firm, sent an optimistic email saying: "We are expecting the French government to make an announcement this Wednesday to confirm that British vaccinated skiers can enter France from this Saturday 15 January."
