France offer Shaun Edwards the contract Wales wouldn't as news expected imminently - reports

France have offered Shaun Edwards the security Wales wouldn't by tabling a four-year contract, according to reports in the French press.

The defence guru's future has been shrouded in doubt after it was confirmed that he wouldn't be taking the head coaching role at Wigan Warriors after the World Cup, as previously announced.

In recent weeks, Wales' hopes of keeping hold of one of the best coaches in the world looked like coming good as they entered into negotiations to extend his stay.

But talks broke down when the Welsh Rugby Union only offered Edwards a deal of two years guaranteed with the option to extend a further two years at the discretion of the Union, which is the same as Wayne Pivac and the rest of the new coaching team.

But Edwards wants the full four-year World Cup cycle guaranteed.

RMC Sport are now reporting that France are prepared to offer him that four-year contract and say talks are at an advanced stage.

They also expect a decision either way to come in the next 48 hours.
