France, Malta and Netherlands added to UK's 14 day quarantine list

Three more holiday destinations have been added to the UK's 14-day quarantine list.

France, Malta and the Netherlands have tonight been added to the list meaning people will have to self isolate and quarantine for two weeks on return.

It will come into force at 4am on Saturday morning (August 15).

The announcement came tonight from Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, reports PA.

The decision to add France, the Netherlands, Monaco, Malta, Turks & Caicos and Aruba to the quarantine list comes after the Joint Biosecurity Centre and Public Health England indicated a significant change in Covid-19 risk in all six destinations.

Department for Transport officials said that data from France shows that over the past week there has been a 66% increase in newly reported cases and a 52% increase in weekly incidence rate per 100,000 population, indicating a sharp rise in Covid-19.

There has been a consistent increase in newly reported cases in the Netherlands over the past four weeks, with a 52% increase in newly reported cases between August 7 and 13.

Over the past week, there has been a 273% increase in newly reported cases in Turks & Caicos and 1,106% increase in newly reported cases in Aruba.

Malta has had a 105% increase in newly reported cases over the past week.
