France eases travel rules for unvaccinated UK visitors ahead of Easter rush

The French government has shifted the UK from its orange to green list, meaning that unvaccinated travellers now only have to present a negative Covid test result to enter the country. The news is a massive boost to travellers planning to cross the English Channel for an Easter break and has been welcomed by travel operators.

Previously passengers were forced to provide a “compelling reason” for their visit to France and isolate for seven days on arrival. Now they just need to show a PCR results 72 hours before travel or an antigen test within 48 hours.

The relaxation comes in time for Easter holidays and makes travel simpler for families with children aged between 12 and 17 who had not been vaccinated. Travellers who have not received the full vaccine dose or booster no longer have to submit a “declaration sur l’honneur” (sworn declaration form) confirming a lack of Covid symptoms. They can enter with proof of vaccination alone.

Guillaume Bazard, France’s consul général in London, tweeted: “On March 31, the United Kingdom will be placed on the green list. Abolition of compelling reasons for non-vaccinated travellers, who will have to present a negative test (72 hour PCR or 48 hour TAG) entry into force upon publication in the Official Journal.”

Vaccinated Britons will no longer have to complete France’s passenger locator form and can enter with proof of vaccination. UK citizens who had a second jab more than 270 days ago will need to have a booster to qualify as vaccinated in France.

Travel expert Paul Charles, boss of The PC Agency, tweeted: "Bravo #France. The UK finally makes the French travel green list, with conditions for those not fully-vaccinated!"
