France appoint new manager after missing out on World Cup glory

  • Zinedine Zidane has been officially confirmed as the new head coach of the France national football team, taking over from Didier Deschamps .
  • Didier Deschamps stepped down from his role earlier this month after 14 years, following France's semi-final exit from the World Cup after a 2-0 defeat to European champions Spain.
  • Zidane, who had been without a managerial position since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, was widely anticipated to succeed Deschamps.
  • During his managerial career at Real Madrid, Zidane achieved significant success, winning three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles across two spells.
  • The former France captain, who won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 as a player, has signed a long-term deal and is tasked with leading a talented generation of French players into future tournaments including Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
