(Picture: Netflix)London-headquartered Framestore, the Oscar-winning visual effects house, has praised the capital’s post-production industry following its latest Academy Award nomination.
The industry was hit by the pandemic last year, and combined total UK spend on film and high-end TV productions, including visual effects, was £2.8 billion, down £774 million, according to the BFI.
But Lucy Killick, managing director of film at Framestore, said: “While Covid-19 has slowed production, the demand for new content remains high, and our industry is perfectly placed to help film-makers find solutions to even the toughest creative or logistical challenges.”
Killick added: “London’s reputation as a global VFX hotbed has been built on a unique mix of talent, creativity and work ethic.”
Chancery Lane-based Framestore worked on The Midnight Sky, starring and directed by George Clooney, which has just been nominated for the ‘best visual effects’ Oscar. Earlier this month that film was also named in the Bafta’s ‘outstanding visual effects’ category.
Meanwhile in a boost for the British independent movies sector, Film4-backed The Father, starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, is nominated for six Oscars including best film.
