Frail Jimmy Patton's last public appearance at Barry Chuckle's funeral

Jimmy Patton's last appearance before his tragic death was at his own brother's funeral.

The 87-year-old comedian - known as the third Chuckle Brother thanks to his recurring role on the hit children's show ChuckleVision - was seen carefully making his way into Barry Elliot's funeral last August, 11 months before he too died.

Jimmy was spotted using crutches to slowly walk into Rotherham United football club's New York Stadium, where Barry was being laid to rest in front of family, friends and hundreds of fans.

His young wife Amy was at his side, supporting him as he walked with the aid of two crutches ahead of the ceremony.

Barry died at the age of 73 from bone cancer, having kept his illness totally secret and deciding instead to continue working up until the point he was too sick.

Jimmy had seen Barry just two days before his death, and paid tribute to his brother after the awful news broke.

"We are all devastated," he said at the time.

"Barry had bone cancer which had spread to his lungs. He was ill for years, but kept it hidden.

"We knew about it, but kept it quiet, and all the family are really hurting right now."

Jimmy became a household name thanks to his role in ChuckleVision, where his famous catchphrase was "Remember: no slacking".

His other brother Brian Patton also made appearances on the show, where his uttering was "Geroutofit!".

Jimmy and Brian first made their names in the comedy circuit, starting off as the Patton Brothers in 1954.

They became firm favourites in the pantomime scene, getting their big break in Aladdin in 1956 when they played Chinese policemen.

All four brothers - Jimmy, Brian, Barry and Paul - appeared together on the game show 3-2-1 in 1982 and also on the show New Faces.

And while Barry and Paul went on to form the Chuckle Brothers - which first aired on BBC in 1987 - Jimmy and Brian continued their work in the UK comedy scene as the Patton Brothers.

Jimmy also appeared on Seaside Special, The Good Old Days, and David Nixon's Comedy Bandbox.
