Foyle Cup 2020 entries now open for summer tournament

Entries are now open for the 2020 O'Neill's Foyle Cup.

The big summer tournament will be held in the North West from July 20-25 this year.

The hugely popular youth soccer tournament - evet which is held in Derry, Strabane, Limavady, Dungiven and Coleraine - attracts teams from all over the world.

This year there will be visitors competing from the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Finland, China, England, Scotland and possibly Australia.

The Foyle Cup is attracting an increasing number of professional clubs with teams including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Utd, Hibernian, Dundee Utd, Barnsley, Patrick Thistle, Hearts and Norwich City all having competed.

The event caters for team entries from age 8 up to 19, and includes girls, ladies and sports with disability entries.

Last year witnessed the biggest ever entry of 434 teams and interest so far indicates that this record will be surpassed in 2020.

Commenting on the ever-increasing popularity of the event, chairman Michael Hutton said: “This tournament has grown from a one day eight team event in 1992 to a sux day festival of football, catering for over 400 teams.

"When asked to explain its popularity I have no doubt it is down to the quality of playing surface, excellent organisation, high standard of competition and the welcome afforded all participants by local people.”
