Fox's use of song Bulletproof in segment about children's clothing 'abhorrent' says La Roux

British act La Roux says the use of the song Bulletproof by Fox in a television segment about clothing designed to protect school kids from gunfire is "abhorrent".

The US TV network played a portion of the song, which features the lyrics "this time, baby, I'll be bulletproof", while introducing an item on the "ballistic protective equipment" market on its Mornings With Maria show.

"Using Bulletproof, a song I wrote about relationships, for a piece like this is abhorrent," La Roux singer Elly Jackson said in a statement.

"I have never, and would never, approve my music to be used in this way."

The US has seen many high-profile school shootings in recent years, including a massacre at a Texas high school in May, and one in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 and sparked a major youth-led protest movement campaigning for stricter gun control.

In the segment, an employee of a company that markets the clothing to school kids describes the various products.

She says "the fact there is some school issues" in the US is the reason why the company is developing what it says are bulletproof backpacks and jackets.

"Some of these things are quite fashion-forward," the show's host, Maria Bartiromo, says.

In a statement, Fox Business Network said: "The song was chosen by the production team and the selection has been addressed."
