FOX’s Joel Klatt defends Jim Harbaugh, says Michigan can’t win titles while Ohio State is on its run

Okay, let me get this out of the way now. I completely respect FOX College Football analyst Joel Klatt. He is sensible, has well thought out arguments and tends to be objective in all his thinking.

That being said, I can’t agree with his latest take on the Colin Cowherd Show. A big topic as of late is the job Jim Harbaugh is doing at Michigan. He’s now got two losses on the season — one in which many picked the Wolverines to win the Big Ten and to have a shot at the College Football Playoff.

But that’s kind of how it’s all gone at Michigan since Harbaugh slipped the khakis on in Ann Arbor. Promises unfulfilled. There’s no other way to look at it.

But Klatt kind of came to Harbaugh’s defense this week when he was asked about the marriage between Mr. Awkward and Michigan. Amazingly enough, Klatt said that it is inconceivable for Michigan to win at the rate their fans expect with the roll that Ohio State is on.

That’s just the start of it. He and Cowherd discuss the so-called unrealistic expectations and point to Ohio State being a historically better program. Just click on the below and listen to everything Joel Klatt had to say thanks to the FOX College Football Twitter feed.

It’s quite interesting Klatt takes this stance. Yeah Ohio State might be winning at a clip equaled by only Clemson and Alabama, but it’s not like Michigan is some flash in the pan program. I mean, we’re talking about the winningnest program of all-time no? At least, that’s what Wolverine fans like to remind us about every single chance they get.

It used to be Michigan and Ohio State battling back and forth for Big Ten championships. And if you win the Big Ten, you then get the opportunity to compete for bigger things.

But that’s not even happening any longer. In fact, all you have to do is look at Clemson to dispel the fact that Michigan can’t get someone that can get the program back among the elite. The Tigers really had never been thought of a blue-blood until Dabo Swinney climbed that pedestal.

Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama. All of those teams and a part of a select population  Michigan is aiming for, but it didn’t used to be. It can’t get back, and there’s no excuse. At least there shouldn’t be.

Everyone needs to stop treating Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan program with kid gloves because the expectations should be more. Otherwise, why is Harbaugh the third highest-paid coach in college football?
