Fox reiterates support for Jussie Smollett, says he's not being written off 'Empire'

Jussie Smollett's "Empire" character isn't going anywhere, according to Fox.

The media company _ which broadcasts "Empire" _ reiterated its support for Smollett amid a police investigation into the actor's claims he was attacked in Chicago on Jan. 29.

"Jussie Smollett continues to be a consummate professional on set and as we have previously stated, he is not being written out of the show," reads a statement released Wednesday by 20th Century Fox and Fox Entertainment.

Chicago police continue to investigate Smollett's claims after a pair of brothers were questioned and released by police last week without being charged.

Reports by TMZ and Deadline emerged Tuesday stating "Empire" had cut several of Smollett's scenes in the upcoming season, including a musical number.

A pair of unidentified law enforcement sources recently told CNN that cops suspect Smollett gave the brothers money to carry out the attack.

Smollett's attorneys have denied the actor having any involvement.

"As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with," his lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson said in a statement last Saturday.

"He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying."

Smollett claimed to police he was attacked by two people who hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him and placed a rope around his neck.
