Fox News tells Emily Blunt to leave Hollywood

A Fox News anchor has said the British-born actress Emily Blunt should “leave Hollywood” after saying she regretted getting her US citizenship once she watched the Republican presidential candidate debate.

Calls for Blunt’s US-exit came after comments she made to the Hollywood Reporter where she said in jest: “I became an American citizen recently - and that night, we watched the [GOP] debate, and I thought ‘This was a terrible mistake What have I done?’”

Fox News also highlighted comments the 32-year-old actress made to US chat show host Jimmy Kimmel about the day she received her citizenship.

“I’m not sure I’m entirely thrilled about it. People ask me about the whole day. They were like, ‘Oh, it must have been so emotional.’ I was like, ‘It wasn’t, It was sad!’ I like being British," she said.

Discussing the admission, Anna Kooiman, an anchor on Fox’s morning show, let out an ‘ugh’ groan before sending a message to Blunt: “Well you know what, why don’t you leave Hollywood, California and let some of the American women take the roles that you’re getting because American citizens are watching your movies and lining your pockets.”

Her colleague Steve Doocy agreed, saying that Blunt has “alienated half the country” before warning that “they will now think twice before going to one of her movies”.

A native of the UK, Blunt was born in London and now resides in Los Angeles with her American husband, actor from the US version of the Office, John Krasinski and their daughter Hazel.

A representative for Blunt did not immediately respond to comment.
