Fox News suspends ex-Trump campaign staffer over 'cotton-picking mind' remark

NEW YORK _ The former deputy campaign manger for President Donald Trump was reportedly slapped with a two-week suspension from his Fox News contributor gig for hurling a racially charged quip at a Democratic strategist.

David Bossie, who joined Trump's White House bid in September 2016, will not be allowed on air during the suspension after telling "Fox & Friends" panelist Joel Payne, who is black, that he was "out of your cotton-picking mind," the Daily Beast reported Monday.

Fox News host and moderator Ed Henry abruptly ended the Sunday morning panel after Payne managed to fire back: "Cotton-picking mind? Brother, let me tell you something. I got some relatives who picked cotton."

Henry addressed Bossie's statement after the commercial break and condemned his words as "obviously offensive."

Hours later, Bossie took to Twitter and offered an apology to Payne, the Fox News network and viewers.

"During a heated segment on Fox & Friends today, I should have chosen my words more carefully and never used the offensive phrase that I did," Bossie tweeted.
