Fox News' resident eyebrow-raiser Tucker Carlson has claimed the new president of the United States is actually... a hologram.
Right-winger Carlson - who recently insisted white supremacy is a "conspiracy theory" and whined immigrants would make the US "poorer and dirtier" - took to the network last night after Joe Biden gave his semi-acceptance speech in the absence of the final vote tally.
"Who exactly is Joe Biden? This man who claims to be our president - we probably ought to find out. Put that on the to-do list," Biden told his Fox viewers on Friday night.
"The truth is, as of tonight we don't really know. We have no clue what Joe Biden actually thinks or even if he's capable of thinking.
"He hasn't told us. Nobody's made him tell us, for a full year now. That's by design. In fact, it's becoming clear there is no 'Joe Biden'. The man you may remember from the 1980s is gone, he no longer exists."
Tucker's claims then got more ludicrous as he told the camera: "What remains is a projection of sorts - a hologram designed to mimic the behaviour of a non-threatening political candidate.
"Relax, Joe Biden is here; he smiles a lot. That's the message from the vapour candidate. Don't think too much. Who is running the projector here?"
Tucker also claimed Biden's team would force the US electorate to "make you drink Starbucks every day" in a bid for "total uniformity".
Following the clip, which has taken off on Twitter, critics have been relentlessly mocking the millionaire pundit for his views.
"I wish Tucker bluddy Carlson was hologram... I'd take great pleasure in pulling the plug on him. He's a colossal bell**d," wrote one.
"Errr... Run that by me again - #TuckerCarlson is under the impression that #Biden is a Hologram.. whatever. Then again he is propbably doing the death throes of #Trump news propaganda channel @FoxNews," tweeted another.
And a third said: "Plot Twist: Tucker Carlson was once a real person. He died of irony and with the help of his families fortune, is now uploaded to Fox News servers. He's the real hologram who is turned off every night and reprogrammed every afternoon."
It comes after incumbent Donald Trump slowly lost his hopes of reelection as tensions in the White House hit fever pitch.
Following his livestreamed meltdown on Thursday night, in which Trump falsely claimed the Democrats were trying to 'steal' the election, the orange-faced president refused to step aside and concede the race.
Biden is expected to be announced as the winner of the US election some time in the next few hours, after the remaining votes in key states are counted.
