Fox News Has a Major Problem After Dismissing Tucker Carlson

The immediate aftermath of Tucker Carlson’s dismissal has been less than promising for Fox Corp (FOXA).

Fox News’ 8pm ET time slot, which Carlson occupied with his show ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ since 2018, has seen drastic dips in viewership since Carlson’s final show last Friday.

Carlson’s finale averaged 2.65 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Brian Kilmeade has been the substitute host of what’s now called ‘Fox News Tonight’ and saw ratings of 2.59 million on Monday, 1.7 million on Tuesday, and 1.33 million on Wednesday.

In comparison, Carlson’s old show got 3.05 million viewers last Wednesday and averaged 3.03 million viewers for all of 2022, the second most in the Fox lineup.

Kilmeade’s Wednesday viewership put him behind MSNBC’s Chris Hayes for the evening time slot. Carlson generally lapped his competition while at Fox News.

There has been much speculation about the cause of Carlson’s departure, but the estranged Fox News host released a video on Twitter Wednesday evening suggesting that he may have new plans up his sleeve. His next move may be away from mainstream media, whom he referred to as the “current orthodoxies” and claimed that “no one actually believes them.”

Carlson’s video has 74.4 million views on Twitter as of this writing.
