Fox gets head stuck between two walls in Bristol

An animal rescuer gave a helping hand to a fox who had got his head stuck between two walls in Knowle.

The RSPCA was called to help the cub, who had been discovered in a garden on Thursday (May 14).

Animal collection officer Dean Wilkins, who rescued the stricken animal, said: “This poor fox had his head stuck in a four-inch wide gap between two walls and was really frightened and unable to free himself.

“It will have been very distressing for such a timid wild animal to find himself stuck like that, so I carefully and quickly freed him.

“Sadly, he’d worn down his back claws to the point they were bleeding while trying to get out, but after pain relief and a clean-up at the clinic at Bristol Animal Rescue Centre I was able to release him back to his den behind a shed where he belongs.”

The RSPCA dealt with 1,501 wildlife incidents in Bristol last year.

The charity is experiencing a surge in calls to rescue sick, injured and orphaned wild animals and birds now the breeding season is underway.

The RSPCA urges people to take care around wild animals, keep a safe distance and report any concerns to the charity’s emergency line 0300 1234 999.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "To help the RSPCA keep rescuing animals like these and keep our animal hospitals and centres running for emergency treatment and round the clock care through these unprecedented times, please donate whatever you can spare at www.rspca.org.uk/covid."
