Just last year, the college football world didn’t know what to think about Ryan Day. Here at Buckeyes Wire, we got criticized greatly for ranking him as one of the top coaches in the Big Ten. We thought we had seen enough from his handling of the offense, to when he filled in for the suspended Urban Meyer, to his handling of the press, and his knowledge with X’s and O’s that many were about to find out just how good Day was. That’s not to even mention how respected he was in NFL circles.
What a difference a year makes. After an undefeated regular season and appearance in the College Football Playoff, everyone has now begun to come on board with what kind of college football coach Day is. We’ve seen him on several graphics and rankings including him as one of the best coaches in the country.
And here’s another. The FOX College Football crew picked their top-five coaches in the country, and all but one of them selected Ryan Day as one of the best. It’s probably too early for him to unseat guys like Alabama’s Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney of Clemson, but he’s quickly getting the notoriety he deserves.
The only person to not select Day was Matt Leinart. The fan vote had Day as the No. 3 coach, Brady Quinn selected him No. 4, and Urban Meyer, Joel Klatt, Reggie Bush, and Rob Stone all picked him as the fifth-best coach in all of college football.
It’s great obviously that Day is getting more respect in college football circles, but just wait. We believe he’ll climb to even closer to the top in no time.
