Fourth share issue for Grimsby Community Energy as major solar schemes eyed

Grimsby Community Energy has launched a fourth share issue as it looks to raise funds for two major solar installations.

Catch’s industrial training complex at Stallingborough and the YMCA Humber Foyer on the town’s Riby Street have been identified as the next steps towards the megawatt target of installed capacity.

Catch, at the heart of the decarbonisation agenda, could host 406kW at the Kiln Lane Industrial Estate site. It boasts several large training workshops and a simulation process building.

Multiple funding streams have been tapped into in order to make the offer, including the Northern Powergrid Net Zero Communities fund, Co-operatives UK Booster Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. They have intern employment for marketing and administration.

Vicky Dunn, director, said the aim was to raise £314,000, with options to invest from £100, with a target interest of 5 per cent. “This is a big step onward to our vision of 1MW of community-owned solar PV locally,” she said.

The YMCA could add a further 30kW, and it would follow on from the likes of E-Factor’s Enterprise Village and Business Hive, as well as the new-build YMCA on Freeman Street.

A public launch was held on Friday.
