Donald Trump, who’s never met a microphone he didn’t love or a slight he didn’t take personally, has once again reminded us that there’s no satire too small — or too animated — to escape his wrath.
The President’s official response came after South Park, the famously irreverent series, had taken sharp aim at Trump in their latest episode, mocking everything from his ego to his anatomy in a segment that’s already become one of the show’s most talked-about moments in years. The episode ends with an AI-generated sequence of a fully nude Trump wandering a desert, his “teeny tiny” mushroom on full display.
For a show that has mocked everyone from religious icons to celebrities, this is par for the course. But what makes it particularly striking is how directly it targets Trump’s insecurities. Over the years, Trump has proven himself to be extraordinarily sensitive to personal attacks, especially those that poke at his masculinity, ego, or physical appearance. The episode hit all three targets, and the fallout was immediate.
A spokesperson for Trump didn’t mince words in condemning South Park. The statement dismissed the show as outdated and irrelevant, accusing the Left and the creators of hypocrisy for celebrating the same kind of “offensive” content they’ve criticized in the past. According to Trump’s camp, the episode was nothing more than a desperate grab for attention by a show long past its prime.
What makes this story even more intriguing is the broader context involving Paramount, the media giant behind South Park. Just days before the episode aired, Paramount announced a $1.5 billion deal for the show’s global streaming rights. At the same time, Paramount has been dealing with its own Trump-related controversy. The company recently settled a lawsuit Trump had filed over claims that CBS’s 60 Minutes selectively edited an interview with Kamala Harris, his opponent in the 2024 presidential race. The settlement reportedly included millions of dollars for Trump’s presidential library fund, along with a $20 million commitment to air public service announcements or similar programming.
