Fourth person arrested over murder of missing couple William Maughan and Ana Varslavane

A fourth person has been arrested over the disappearance and murder of William Maughan and Anastasija Varslavanne.

The pair were reported missing from Laytown, Co Meath in April 2015.

The investigation into their disappearances was classified as a murder probe in September 2016.

Earlie today gardai arrested a woman, in her 40s, and two men, in their 50s and 60s, in relation to the investigation.

And now officers said they have arrested a fourth person, a man in his 20s, in connection with the investigation.

He was detained in Dublin where he is currently being held.

Searches were also carried out at a location in Co Meath on Wednesday morning.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of William Maughan and Anastasija Varslavanne in April, 2015 have made a fourth arrest this evening, Wednesday 8th July, 2020.

"A man (20s) was arrested this evening in Dublin and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin.

"All searches have been completed today.  The two men and one woman who were arrested this morning remain detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939."
