A fourth man has been charged with murder over the bashing death of Oliver Todd, whose body was found partially concealed behind mounds of dirt at a property east of Adelaide.

The 33-year-old Mt Gambier Prison inmate was arrested on Wednesday and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

His arrest comes after police previously charged two men from Murray Bridge, aged 30 and 49, with murder, and later charged another man from Murray Bridge, aged 41, with impeding and investigation.

At the time of his death in December 2019, detectives said Mr Todd had suffered a severe beating.

It was believed the 47-year-old was attacked in his home with a tomahawk, his body wrapped in a wool bale bag and transported to Jervois in a red car.

The man had earlier been reported missing from a property at Murray Bridge with detectives later finding a bloodied crime scene within the house.
