Fourth man charged over Hunter shooting

A fourth man has been arrested and charged over the fatal shooting of a man in Port Stephens. (AAP)

A fourth man has been charged over the shooting murder of a man in the NSW Hunter region earlier this year.

Police found the body of 45-year-old David King in the driver's seat of a white ute in Salt Ash near Port Stephens in August, after receiving calls that the car had hit a tree.

Three men, aged 26, 27 and 39 have already been charged over Mr King's murder.

On Tuesday officers arrested and charged another man, aged 28, with murder, kidnapping and possessing an illegal, shortened firearm.

He will face Raymond Terrace Local Court on January 17.

Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack and will argue the men shot Mr King, then fled the scene in a white Santa Fe, which was later found burnt out in Heatherbrae.

The 26-year-old has also been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in the car, before it was set on fire.
