Fourth coronavirus case confirmed in Liverpool as UK total rises

A further case of coronavirus in Liverpool has been confirmed.

On Sunday, a new positive test was announced in Liverpool, bringing the total number to four.

The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK rose to 278 on Sunday evening with the confirmation of five new cases in Northern Ireland.

The latest Liverpool case is a known contact of an existing patient and is receiving specialist treatment.

On Sunday night, Liverpool City Council tweeted: "One more case of #Coronavirus has now been confirmed in #Liverpool, bringing the total to four.

"The individual is a known contact of an existing patient and is receiving specialist treatment."

Public Health England (PHE), Liverpool City Council and the local NHS are working closely together to effectively manage all the cases.

PHE is currently contacting people who may have had close contact with the confirmed cases.

Close contacts will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after they had contact with the confirmed cases.
