Fourth child from house fire near Miami International Airport dies

MIAMI _ The fourth child rescued Monday from a house fire near the Miami International Airport has died.

"With great sadness that I inform you that the 4th child from the house fire at 3621 NW 18 Terr. on December 30th, 2019, passed away yesterday," Miami Police Spokesman Michael Vega announced via email on Thursday.

Police also identified the victims, all siblings: Naziyah Fernandez, 1; Nomad Lopez, 6; Nainalee Lopez, 8; and Heilyn Mejia, 11.

The first three children died Monday afternoon after being taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Firefighters rescued them from a smoky house in the Grapeland Heights near Miami International Airport.

The adult women also treated following the fire were identified as the children's mother and grandmother. Vega said they are "recovering and grieving their horrific loss."

This case remains under investigation.
