Fourth arrest after violent scenes which sparked armed police response in Neath

A fourth person has been arrested after violent scenes broke out in Neath, prompting an armed police response.

Emergency services were called to Windsor Street in Neath town centre, on Thursday, March 11, following reports of an assault. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a number of armed officers, as well as multiple ambulances at the scene at around 11.45am.

Video shared widely following the incident showed a fight taking place in the street involving a number of people with punches thrown and people rolling on the floor. WalesOnline has also seen images showing graphic facial injuries.

South Wales Police explained later that two men had been taken to hospital with cut injuries which were not life-threatening and later still that two men, aged 24 and 32, and a woman, aged 24, had been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The force said today, Friday, March 12, that a fourth person had since been arrested in connection with the assaults. A 24-year-old man is in police custody, while the other three people arrested also remain in police custody.

Detective inspector David Wells called the incident that happened on Thursday "shocking" and confirmed that officers weren't currently looking for anyone else in connection with it.
