Fourth arrest after man stabbed in street attack in Ashton-under-Lyne

Police have made an arrest after a man was stabbed in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Officers and paramedics were called to June Street at around 6.15pm on Monday to reports of an attack.

A man aged in his 20s was found with stab wounds and rushed to hospital.

Police said he has now been released and was recovering at home.

Detectives investigating the stabbing swooped to arrest three men in the wake of the attack.

Now a fourth arrest - a 33-year-old man - has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

Greater Manchester Police said on Friday he was being questioned in custody over the incident.

A force spokesman said the three men previously arrested, two aged 25 and one aged 26, have all now been released with no further action due to be taken against them.

Police chiefs described an 'isolated' incident.

An investigation to piece together what exactly happened is continuing.

In a statement on Friday, GMP said: "Three men - aged 25, 25 and 26 - were previously arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. They have since been released with no further action. 

"Another man - aged 33 - has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He remains in custody for questioning."

Detective Inspector Jospeh Harrop said: "We have a dedicated team working to piece together exactly what happened earlier in the week and as part of those enquiries have made a further arrest.

"I understand that this incident has caused concern among members of the local community but I would like to stress that we are treating this as isolated and we are doing all that we can to support those people that have worries or questions.

"I would also take this opportunity to say that our enquiries do not stop here.
